Book Column
I took an intro to sculpture class, where our final project prompted us to build a piece out of an unconventional medium. I chose books. I found a local second-hand store that throws away books after they’ve sat on the shelves for too long. With their permission and a friend to lend a hand, I raided their recycling dumpster. We took home a trunk full of books and I began playing, pondering and testing ways to interact with them. Among the dumpster spoils, I pieced together an almost-complete encyclopedia set. I thought this would make for an interestingly antiquated “column of knowledge” which could be approached and flipped through by a passerby.
